Bonne Anniversiare

Wow, just wow!

Bonne Anniversiare

After refueling the car and ourselves we took some time to reflect on the day. The cancellation of tomorrow’s first appointment was a blow as the house had been in our number one area.

Whilst catching up with my emails, I noticed a message from an agent we had spoken to about a property some months ago but sadly the house had sold before we were able to arrange a visit. She wanted to know if we were in the area as she had a house she felt suited our requirements. I explained that we were indeed in the area but had a full schedule with the only gap being tomorrow morning. That worked for her and the location was a stone’s throw from our first afternoon appointment. So we arranged to see the appointment first thing in the morning.

This visit had been our first time in the area at this late point of the year and we had experienced the late November weather in all its glory. Since our arrival it had been grey, misty and very wet. Today however just happened to be my birthday and the sun arrived for the occasion. The warm sunshine raised our spirits as we headed to our favourite little town of Vic-Fezensac. We had arranged to meet our agent outside the towns’ bullring. The Joseph Fourniol Arenas were built in 1931 and still hold live bullfights each year during the Feria del toro. A festival held in the town during Pentecost.

We had taken a little time over breakfast to view the details of the property and honestly we were not sure about it. It appeared to be an old property with a more modern extension added at a later date. We were not looking for anything modern however we had a free morning so we thought why not just take a look.

We followed the agent out of town and into the countryside. Even though the year was making its final descent into winter, the landscape was breathtaking. We turned off the main route out of town and started out on a tiny rural road shaded by trees and finally turned up a small track that intersected two freshly harvested fields. At the top of the hill the agent indicated and pulled off the tiny road. She informed us that she had forgotten the fob the gates so we must park outside. We exited the car and were greeted by the most amazing view. Wow, just wow!. We were so captivated by the view we hadn’t even tuned to see the property.

We entered through iron gates to a large driveway and well kept garden. It was so peaceful. The first thing we saw was the amazing stone tower. We could not wait to get inside. The listing had been correct there was definitely a more modern aspect to this house but its exterior had been done sympathetically. We entered the house into a light and airy hallway with beautifully exposed stone detailing, so far so good! The hallway led to the downstairs of the extension that consisted of a large double aspect dining room, a downstairs bedroom, bathroom and utility/boiler room. The kitchen was small but new and fully functioning. The agent opened the french doors to the garden and we stepped into the back garden and just stopped in our tracks. It was large and mainly laid to lawn. The privacy and size was ideal for us. We wandered the land looking at the many trees and had to be coaxed back indoors to finish the viewing.

My particular favourite part of the house was the spiral staircase that ran inside the stone tower.

The original part of the house had the upstairs removed and turned into an enormous reception room. It was nuts!

We continued to explore the house and gardens and gave our thanks to the agent. We had three more viewings that afternoon but we were pleasantly surprised by how much we had liked this house, especially its location. It was unlike anything we had previously seen but it definitely had that special something.
